Today the Ottoman Empire is known as one of the largest and strongest empires in world history. The Ottomans were established in 1299, became an empire in 1453 and came to an end in 1923, reigning for more than five centuries. The Ottoman Empire reached its Golden Age under the Sultan Suleiman, also referred to as Suleiman “the Magnificent” and “the Law Giver”. Suleiman guided the Ottoman Empire through its Golden age from 1520-1566. The Ottoman Empire was able to have this Golden Age and sustain itself as an empire is due to many factors such as its religious tolerance, multicultural background, military prowess, trading networks and its powerful sultans such as Suleiman. By looking at these factors we can begin to see how the Ottomans were able to sustain themselves as long as they did as one of the strongest empires known to history.
